Casey-Landry told consumers who are looking for a loan in today's tight market to visit their local neighborhood bank. "Have a conversation with the bank. Don't just rely on a [nonbank] salesperson because you think that person may or may not be trustworthy," she said during an interview. "You want to go into a regulated institution that you know is not going to steer you wrong."

Casey-Landry also advised homeowners who fear foreclosure to contact their banker. "Consumers need to know there is help out there if they ask for it," she explained. "Banks will work with borrowers to keep them in their home and maintain a long-term relationship." View the ABA's Homeownership Month Web page. Listen to a Casey-Landry sound bite.
